Potty Training begins

Until now the momma dogs have been taking care of all the potty needs for their babies. When the pups are born they are unable to urinate or deficate independently but must be licked by the mother in order to release. At about 12 days old the pups develop the ability to release independently and begin crawling short distances from their sleeping spot in order to not soil the nest. As soon as this happens we can begin potty training techniques with a litter box. They learn about a 'clean' area for sleeping and gradually gain the idea that the 'dirty' area is the litter box. This will not only keep them much cleaner during their time here with the litter but will also greatly aid potty training for going outside later. If the pups are left to soil anywhere then they do not develop the natural cleanness they should have. No one wants to lay or play in their own mess so we embrace this and litter box train asap.

Poppy is pretty proud of how well her babies are doing! She also loves laying and playing with them.

Beatrice makes sure that all the puppies get lots of cuddles! Momma Holi got in on the

cuddling action too!

Goodnight!
